Mennonite Home Communities’ COVID-19 Preparations and Updates

COVID-19 Reporting Requirements

May 11, 2023

The federal government ended the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency on May 11, 2023. With the expiration of the Public Health Emergency, COVID-19 (i.e., SARS-CoV-2 infection) is no longer a mandated reportable condition in Pennsylvania. This means that future cases of COVID-19 among residents or staff will be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Health but will no longer be reported on the website.

Connection with Residents at Mennonite Home

Visitation is open at Mennonite Home. For information please contact Marcia Hirneisen at (717) 390-4131 or email: mhirneisen@mennonitehome.org.

We have the capability to connect residents and their family via FaceTime, Skype or Zoom.  Please contact your Social Worker to set up a time.

COVID-19 Procedures at Mennonite Home

When a resident tests positive, we notify residents and their representative(s) of their condition and implement protocols for their care and treatment. We also follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Pennsylvania Department of Health, including return to work guidance, for staff who test positive.

Mennonite Home Communities is staying in very close communication with local and state health officials to ensure we are taking all the appropriate steps under current circumstances. We are also following guidance from the CDC and CMS to reduce the spread and impact of COVID-19, such as:

  • Enhanced infection control precautions
  • Encourage visitors to delay visit if new onset of symptoms or exposure to limit spread
  • Testing staff and residents for COVID-19 based on current protocols

Due to government privacy requirements, we cannot divulge specific information about the individuals who have confirmed or suspected COVID-19, unless they are your family member and you have the necessary permissions to receive such information.

We know you are concerned about your loved one, but it is crucial that we follow infection control procedures to reduce the spread of this virus to others. We will contact you directly if your loved one is suspected, been diagnosed, or had a direct exposure with COVID-19.

Currently, there no limits are in place for visitation. However, guidance continues to recommend delaying or postponing a visit if you are aware of a direct exposure or you present with a new onset of symptoms. We understand that connecting with family members is incredibly important to our residents. If you need to postpone a visit we encourage family members to connect with their loved ones through video chat, calling, texting, or on social media.

We need your help in battling COVID-19. Please visit the CDC website to learn how you can help prevent the spread in our community.

We will continue to provide you with updates. Please know that we are adhering to guidelines from local and state health departments, which continue to evolve as we learn more about this virus.

We know that you may have questions and we encourage you to contact us at 717-393-1301.
