SESSION 1:
Principles of Business Transition
Thursday, Sept. 27, 4:00 – 5:30pm

Successful business transition is not for the faint of heart! Organizational considerations and success are primary. However, personal elements including legal, financial and emotional implications are nearly as important. In this session, we will explore organizational and personal considerations that will help you plan successfully for a next-generation succession plan in your organization.

Bio: Roger S. North is founder and President of North Group Consultants. He brings 21 years of consulting experience in organizational transition, executive and team development, and has extensive experience as an operating and sales executive. In addition to his North Group responsibilities, Mr. North is an active community and ministry volunteer, husband, father and newly minted grandfather.

SESSION 2:
Tax Considerations for Business Transition
Thursday, Oct 18, 4:00 – 5:30 pm

Transitioning the ownership of a company is fraught with a wide variety of important tax considerations that range from capital gains, depreciation recapture, and corporate income taxation through a myriad of personal income tax considerations. Your personal tax considerations at this stage of life include income tax, the taxation of social security benefits, Required Minimum Distributions, inheritance taxes, and estate taxes. This session will review strategies to minimize your tax burden.

Bio: Marlin Benedict, CPA, Senior Executive Partner, combines extensive expertise and creative problem-solving to deliver forward-looking solutions regarding succession planning, estate planning, buy/sell agreements, and tax consulting and planning. Marlin specializes in partnering with closely held and family-owned businesses across a range of industries. 

SESSION 3:
Legal Considerations for Business Transition
Thursday, Nov 8, 4:00 – 5:30 pm

A successful business transition involves several foundational elements—one of which is an understanding and application of the appropriate legal components and framework. In this interactive session, we will explore the legal components and, through storytelling and case studies, consider the risks and benefits of various legal pathways on the road of business transition.

Bio: Brian S. Black, Esq. is both a Partner/Consultant at North Group Consultants and a Partner/Attorney at Legacy Law, PLLC. As a consultant, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in both family business leadership and ownership transition planning. Combined with his focus as an attorney in family business succession planning and estate planning for family business owners, Brian has a unique platform for serving family business owners and their families throughout the transition planning journey.

SESSION 4:
Wealth Management and Philanthropic Considerations
Thursday, Nov 29, 4:00 – 5:30 pm

Transitioning ownership of a business presents the owner with multiple opportunities and challenges, such as: securing a diversified income stream, managing risks, determining how much is enough, providing for themselves, creating a low tax or tax-free legacy for their family, and sharing with their community and the causes that are important to them. This workshop will explore creative ideas that touch on all of these, through various tools and strategies that help address all these opportunities and more.

Bio: Amanda Rock, CFP, has been with Everence for over 22 years assisting business owners transition into retirement. She helps people determine their best strategies for retirement, Social Security, charitable giving, and taxes. Her goal is to help people align their life mission with their financial decision making, increase financial confidence and ultimately empower them to give to the people, causes
and organizations they care about.

Bio: William Hartman III, JD, Vice President of Organization Services, leads a team of specialists who help business owners align their values with their stewardship of resources. They craft creative charitable gifting trusts and other charitable solutions for family business owners.
